About Me

Residing near Burlington, VT, I'm a primarily self-taught artist focusing on oil, acrylic, and watercolor, though I've also dabbled in colored pencil, charcoal, graphite and collage. My current interest is in painting botanicals, animals in their natural habitat (birds in particular), landscapes, and still life. In my work, I aim to capture depth, texture, contour, and the interplay between light, shadow and color, often homing in close up to explore details not at first evident without further scrutiny. My favorite inspiration comes right from my own garden, the VT landscape just outside my doors, and nature photographs taken by friends and family.

Through my painting practice, I am realizing what was once the elusive mid-life career change. Although I'd always engaged in art-making since childhood and into adulthood, my previous career as an Expressive Arts Therapist was a phase of life spent drawing out others’ creativity through a therapeutic process. Having left the clinical world I'd spent decades immersed in to make art full-time, I'm now focused on delving more deeply into my own creative process, as well as my subject-matter, to provide enjoyment and inspiration for others as well as to satisfy my own need to interpret and render the beauty surrounding me. It’s perhaps my work as an Expressive Arts Therapist - with its intent on guiding clients to see more deeply into their lived emotional experience through the mediums of art and music in order to gain deeper insight - that allows me to apply my capacity to “see” into my own creative work. In addition to painting, I'm also a singer and pianist and have directed vocal ensembles in prior iterations of my life.
